Kicking off my Z journey: From induction to impact

Heading

My journey at Z Energy began with a two-week induction that offered a deep dive into the business, while also giving me the chance to connect with fellow grads and people across the organisation. From day one, the warm and welcoming culture made it easy to feel right at home.

My first six-week rotation was in the People and Culture (P&C) team, specifically with the Employee Experience group. I contributed to meaningful work like a parental leave research project and supported the Ampol P&C team with HR process improvements. A highlight was travelling to Sydney with both grad cohorts to meet Ampol graduates, tour the Kurnell terminal, and take part in a powerful personal development workshop.

Next, I joined the Retail team in the Customer business unit, where I spent four weeks on-site experiencing the Customer Service Representative role firsthand. This frontline exposure helped me understand what customers really need—and I’m now leading a project aimed at improving the retail experience across Z.

What I’ve enjoyed most about the graduate programme is the chance to explore different areas of the business through each rotation. It’s helped me step outside my comfort zone, build new connections, and grow in confidence.

One surprise? How generous people are with their time. Despite busy schedules, everyone is willing to share knowledge and chat over a barista-made coffee from the Z Shed Café.

To future grads: say yes to everything! The Z grad programme offers so much beyond your core role. Even if a rotation isn’t the perfect fit, each one helps you learn more about yourself and where you thrive.
