Powering transformation at Ampol

  1. You’ve transitioned from a consulting background into an in-house role at Ampol. What attracted you to make that move?

I was keen to move closer to execution and long-term outcomes. Consulting gave me exposure to a wide range of problems within the Bulk Commodity Trading industry, but joining Ampol allowed me to take ownership of a critical program end-to-end and see the impact of decisions over time. The scale and complexity of the CTRM program, and its importance to the Trading & Shipping business, made the move particularly compelling.

  1. What has surprised you most about working client-side on a large transformation like CTRM?

The depth of collaboration across the business. CTRM touches multiple functions, so success depends on strong partnerships between business, technology and delivery teams. Being embedded in the organisation means you build trust, understand context deeply, and can shape solutions that are practical and sustainable.

  1. How have your consulting skills translated into your role as Program Manager?

Many of the core skills are highly transferable — structured problem-solving, stakeholder management, and navigating ambiguity. What’s different is the responsibility to build long-term capability. My focus is not just on delivery, but on building a strong, balanced team with both business and technical expertise that can support the organisation well beyond the program lifecycle.

  1. What does leadership look like for you on a high-profile program like CTRM?

For me, leadership is about clarity, trust and pace. Creating an environment where people understand the ‘why’, feel supported to challenge ideas, and are empowered to deliver is critical. CTRM is highly visible, so setting high standards while maintaining momentum and resilience in the team is key.

  1. What makes working on CTRM at Ampol particularly rewarding?

CTRM is a critical enabler for how Trading & Shipping operates into the future. Knowing that the work we’re delivering drives value for the business and will have a lasting impact across the enterprise makes it incredibly rewarding. It’s challenging, complex work — but that’s exactly what makes it exciting.”
