By integrating modern engineering approaches and fostering a culture of constant innovation, our Enterprise Technology & Software Engineering team connect and build the technology tools that help the Ampol Group work smarter, faster, and more efficiently; that not only support current needs but also scale effortlessly for future growth.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping and sustaining the underlying technology that powers customer experiences, from rewards and loyalty through to invoicing, sales, and ordering. You'll take ownership of a broad and varied remit, balancing delivery, technical debt, and an expanding portfolio of integrations, while working closely with architects to influence how solutions are designed and built. As a senior voice in the team, you'll help lift the capability of a growing squad of engineers and contributing to the broader software engineering practice.
You will have the opportunity to
- Own the creation of component design for larger solutions, contributing to design forums and presenting to architects and enterprise architects
- Own the delivery of technical components end-to-end, including a suite of integrations across loyalty, rewards, invoicing, and order systems
- Provide technical expertise within the Software Engineering team, working closely with the Tech Lead and Architects to shape solution design
- Contribute to the development of standards and best practices, including tackling a meaningful technical debt queue and addressing security vulnerabilities
- Keep current with technology and industry changes and contribute to discussion to improve existing solutions
- Mentor and coach other engineers in the squad, helping round out skills in areas like Terraform, framework and library-level behaviour, and navigating complex debugging scenarios
- Contribute to the Software Engineering Community of Practice as well as DevSecOps, to ensure a broad organisational perspective and practice
What you’ll bring to Z
- Deep experience in .Net or TypeScript/Node. Experience in both is highly valued
- Prior development experience in Cloud technologies, preferably Azure, including Function App development and support.
- API expertise in RESTful API design and development, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Infrastructure as Code with strong Terraform experience highly desirable; Bicep or other IaC tooling also welcomed
- Experience in considerations around scalability, reliability, and security, including handling PII and sensitive customer data with appropriate encryption and secure coding practices
- Ability to explain complexity and influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Nice to Have: Exposure/Experience to Frontend Development
- Agile software development, SCRUM/sprint-based, with the ability to self-manage and operate with autonomy within a small squad

The base salary range for this role is $135,000.00 to $164,500.00 per annum, plus 15% STI based on company performance, a 5% KiwiSaver employer contribution and health insurance through Southern Cross.
