About the role 

Join Ampol Petroleum Distributors and play a key role in managing a diverse portfolio of fleet and equipment assets across our operations based in Brisbane or Sydney. In this role, you will oversee predominantly heavy vehicles, including tanker trucks, as well as light commercial vehicles, materials handling equipment, and portable fuel storage tanks. You will be responsible for optimising asset utilisation and performance, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and contributing to the development and execution of the asset strategy. Managing the full asset lifecycle from acquisition and operation through to disposal you will identify opportunities to improve efficiency, optimise commercial outcomes, and enhance the overall performance and value of our fleet and equipment assets.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead APD's fleet lifecycle strategy, asset planning and investment decisions to ensure assets remain safe, compliant, reliable and fit for purpose.
  • Drive operational enablement through the optimisation of tools, processes and asset-related capabilities that support frontline operations.
  • Identify and deliver improvement opportunities that enhance safety, productivity, customer outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Analyse asset and operational performance data to identify risks, trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage strategic relationships with vendors and service providers, including the escalation and resolution of depot and operational asset maintenance issues.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and leadership in asset management, compliance, operational enablement and continuous improvement across APD.

 

About you:

You are self-driven professional with proven experience in a comparable role. Your strong analytical skills enable you to identify challenges and uncover opportunities through close collaboration with frontline operations. Passionate about continuous improvement and commercial optimisation, you take a proactive approach to work and understand the importance of building strong stakeholder relationships.  

 

Qualification & Experience

  • Commitment to safety, compliance and operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience managing transport, logistics or operational assets in a complex operational environment.
  • Strong understanding of fleet lifecycle management, maintenance optimisation and asset strategy.
  • Experience improving operational tools, processes or asset-related ways of working to support performance and frontline usability.
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to evaluate investment opportunities, build business cases and optimise operational performance.
  • Proven vendor and stakeholder management capability, including managing external service providers and technology partners.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to balance operational, financial and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to influence across multiple functions and build trusted relationships with operational leaders and frontline teams.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on simplifying processes, reducing operational friction and improving outcomes.
  • Ability to analyse data from a wide range of sources to identify trends, assess impacts and support informed decision-making.
  • Experience working in operational environments, including the ability to provide operational support and act as first-line supervisor when required.
