About the role  

An excellent opportunity exists at the Lytton Refinery for an experienced Rotating Equipment Engineering Lead to provide technical leadership and coordinate all rotating equipment engineering activities. The role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of critical machinery, including pumps, compressors, turbines, and associated auxiliary systems. 

The role provides leadership and coordination for a team of rotating equipment engineers and a condition monitoring technician, with responsibility for deploying asset strategies, driving reliability improvements, collaborating with Operations and Maintenance teams, and ensuring all rotating equipment complies with engineering standards and best practices. 

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Drive high availability and reliability of pumps, compressors, and turbines through proactive engineering and OEMS compliance.  

  • Lead, mentor, and coordinate the rotating equipment engineering and diagnostics team.  

  • Deploy and improve asset strategies, including preventive and predictive maintenance programs.  

  • Oversee vibration, lubrication, thermography, and performance monitoring programs.  

  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause investigations to eliminate recurring failures.  

  • Ensure engineering practices meet industry standards, internal requirements, and OEM specifications.  

  •  Identify reliability improvement opportunities and support CAPEX project development.  

  • Provide technical support for maintenance planning and major turnaround events. 

  • Maintain strong collaboration with Operations and Maintenance teams to ensure effective prioritization of rotating equipment risks and reliability actions.  

 

 

About you:  

You bring extensive experience in a similar role, combining strong technical expertise with proven leadership in rotating equipment engineering. You demonstrate a high level of commitment to safety, reliability, and operational excellence, supported by strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 

 

Qualification & Experience  

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering discipline 

  • Registered in the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland (RPEQ certified) 

  • Proven experience in a similar role within refinery, petro chemical, oil and gas or heavy industrial environment 

  • Strong knowledge and experience of rotating equipment with pumps, compressors, turbines and associated systems. 

  • Demonstrated experience in equipment troubleshooting, reliability engineering and failure investigations 

  • Experience in coordinating, supervising and coaching Engineering teams  

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)  

  • Proficient in managing industry standards: 

           API 610 – Centrifugal Pumps 

           API 617 – Centrifugal Compressors 

           API 618 – Reciprocating Compressors 

           API 611 / API 612 – Steam Turbines 

           API 684 – Rotor Dynamics 

           API 670 – Machinery Protection Systems 

           API 682 – Mechanical Seals and Seal Systems 

           ISO 10816 / ISO 20816 – Mechanical vibration evaluation 

           ISO 17359 – Condition monitoring and diagnostics of machines 

           ISO 13374 – Condition monitoring data processing and diagnostics 

           ISO 55000 series – Asset management principles and framework
