We are looking for a seasoned Project Manager to lead end-to-end delivery of our data and analytics initiatives that involve solutions like Sigma, PowerBI, Snowflake/ Databricks, ZEMA to statistical and price modelling capabilities. 

 

About the Role

 

Ampol's Trading & Shipping (T&S) Transformation & Governance team is building the data and analytical foundations that power our trading desks. We are looking for a seasoned Project Manager to lead end-to-end delivery of our data and analytics initiatives that involve solutions like Sigma, PowerBI, Snowflake/ Databricks, ZEMA to statistical and price modelling capabilities.

 

This is a hands-on, high-impact role. You will own the full project delivery lifecycle, work across a complex stakeholder landscape (trading desks, technology, finance, middle office, legal and external vendors); contribute to governance maturity within a program that is growing fast. Beyond Data & Analytics, your scope may extend to other initiatives to support the T&S organisation.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of data and analytics transformation projects from scoping and planning to execution, change management and benefit realisation. 
  • Own project governance: manage scope, schedule, risks, issues, decisions, and budgets across multiple concurrent initiatives. 
  • Drive stakeholder alignment across trading, technology, finance, legal, and middle office, translating commercial goals into actionable delivery plans. 
  • Manage vendor and implementation partner relationships, including contract milestone tracking, onboarding coordination, and quality oversight. 
  • Champion project delivery standards and embed structured PM practices within the team - RACI, Definition of Done, PRB processes and portfolio rituals. 
  • Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and platform teams to plan, sequence, and unblock technical delivery. 


Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Finance or Business or related discipline or relevant operational experience. 
  • 5 to 8 years of program/project management, management consulting or leading business change in data & AI projects 
  • Background in commodities trading, energy, oil & gas or financial services. Familiarity with trade lifecycle concepts, risk frameworks or commercial operations in a trading business is a strong differentiator. 
  • Strong command of project management methodologies viz Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid approaches. 
  • Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills; able to present confidently to senior leadership. 
  • Able to manage ambiguity and operate in an environment where not everything is defined; comfortable building process where little exists. 
  • Experience working with data platforms such as Snowflake, Power BI, Sigma, or equivalent is advantageous. 
  • Ability to engage with and influence internal and external stakeholders to achieve successful project implementation outcomes. 
  • Competition and consumer act compliant and has an understanding of the requirements of other relevant regulations.
