About the role

As the CTRM Business Solution Architect and Business Process Manager, you will own the end-to-end business solution architecture, future operating model and process transformation for Ampol’s Commodity Trading & Risk Management ecosystem.

Drawing on deep oil and energy trading expertise, you will shape how Trading & Shipping operates across Front Office through to Finance. You will challenge legacy practices and champion a CTRM-first approach, prioritising standard platform capability and industry practice over manual processes, customisation and bespoke solutions.

Working across business stakeholders, Technology, architects and delivery partners, you will provide clear recommendations and decision support through Design Authority and governance forums. Success will be measured through simpler and more standardised processes, stronger controls, increased automation and improved operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Business solution architecture and design

• Own the end-to-end business solution blueprint across physical and paper trading, risk, scheduling, logistics, settlements, invoicing, accounting and reporting.
• Translate business requirements, controls and data needs into cohesive functional solutions spanning the CTRM platform, surrounding applications, integrations and operating processes.
• Lead option analysis for complex requirements and cross-functional issues, providing clear recommendations to Design Authority and governance forums.

Trading operating model transformation

• Lead the design of future-state processes across the end-to-end trade lifecycle, aligned with leading oil and energy trading practices.
• Challenge legacy practices and distinguish genuine business requirements from historical constraints that should be simplified or removed.
• Drive standardisation, automation and efficiency across Front, Middle and Back Office to support scalability, effective controls and future growth.

Configuration over customisation

• Champion a CTRM-first approach by prioritising standard platform capabilities, configuration and industry practices before bespoke development or manual workarounds.
• Challenge unnecessary complexity and assess the impact of customisation on delivery, testing, supportability, upgrades and operating processes.

Integration, data and design integrity

• Define and validate requirements for integrations, data flows, reporting, reconciliations, master data and operational monitoring.
• Ensure processes and controls remain effective across system boundaries and solutions align with business needs and enterprise standards.
• Maintain traceability from business requirements through design, configuration, testing and deployment, resolving gaps and inconsistencies early.

Testing, cutover and business readiness

• Define business acceptance criteria and ensure testing covers end-to-end processes, controls, exceptions and integrations.
• Support SIT, UAT, defect triage, data migration, cutover, go-live readiness, hypercare and transition to business operations.

Stakeholder leadership and industry expertise

• Align senior stakeholders, SMEs, Technology teams, implementation partners and vendors around solution priorities, dependencies and decisions.
• Apply deep oil, energy and commodity trading expertise to challenge existing practices and shape simpler, industry-aligned solutions.
• Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders and governance forums on CTRM strategy, trading operating models, risks and key decisions.

Skills & Experience

• Own and maintain the end-to-end business solution architecture across physical and paper trading, risk, scheduling, logistics, settlements, invoicing, accounting and reporting.
• Translate business strategy, operational requirements, controls and data needs into a cohesive and scalable solution spanning the CTRM platform, integrations, surrounding applications and business processes.
• Ensure workstream decisions align with the overall architecture and do not create downstream process, control or data gaps.
• Lead the future operating model design across Front Office, Risk, Middle Office, Operations, Logistics, Settlements, Finance and Accounting.
• Apply deep oil and energy trading expertise to challenge stakeholders and distinguish genuine business requirements from legacy practices or historical system constraints.
• Drive simplification, standardisation and automation, with operational efficiency, scalability and control effectiveness as explicit measures of success.
• Lead functional option analysis for complex requirements and cross-functional issues, providing clear recommendations to Design Authority and governance forums.
• Champion a CTRM-first approach by prioritising standard platform capability, configuration and industry practice before manual processes, customisation or bespoke development.
• Challenge unnecessary complexity and clearly assess the impacts of customisation on delivery, testing, supportability, upgrades and operating processes.
• Define and validate requirements for integrations, data flows, master and reference data, reporting, reconciliations and operational monitoring.
• Ensure end-to-end processes and controls remain effective across system boundaries, partnering with Technology, data and solution architects to align designs with enterprise standards.
• Maintain traceability from business requirements through process design, functional specifications, configuration, testing and deployment.
• Review functional designs and delivered solutions to confirm alignment with approved requirements, resolving gaps and inconsistencies early.
• Define business acceptance criteria and ensure testing covers end-to-end processes, controls, exceptions and integrations.
• Support testing, defect triage, data migration, cutover, go-live readiness, hypercare and transition to business operations.
